Baby essentials have been on my mind as I count down to my due date. Lately, I’ve written a few posts about baby registries and newborn baby essentials as I prepare for a newborn and life with two under two. I would love to upgrade a lot of baby items to all of the amazing things I didn’t know about during my first pregnancy. But I’ve decided that most of the things we already own were just fine the first time. Especially considering we’re having another girl. And because most baby items are only used for a few months, I’m going to be a minimalist, choose the sustainable path, and stick with what I have. My 18-month-old is still using many of my favorite baby essentials so I will need to order a few things. Here are the only 10 things I’m buying for baby my second baby (at this time) in an effort to keep spending and baby gear to a minimum. I’d love to hear your baby essential priorities if you’re also transitioning from one to two babies.

1. Double Stroller Second Seat Conversion Kit

An easy-to-use double stroller is a baby essential I want to have ready to go from day one. I’m keeping our current Mockingbird Single to Double Stroller and ordering the matching second seat kit. I already have the car seat and bassinet attachments. All I need is the second seat kit and it will be perfect for a toddler and a newborn. The Mockingbird stroller is easy to use, comfortable for both babies and toddlers, and has a lot of great storage so I’m excited to continue using it with my new baby.

2. Winter Stroller Blanket

With my summer baby, I always covered the stroller bassinet interior with a light blanket or swaddle to make it more comfortable. But I’ll need some extra layers for winter walks and playground visits this time. I’m ordering the 7AM Winter Stroller Swaddle Blanket to keep my little one cozy and warm. I already have the 7AM Enfant Stroller Footmuff for our toddler (which I love), so I’m excited to try out the swaddle blanket version.

3. My Favorite Goumi Footies

I already have plenty of footed onesies. But I decided to order a few more of my absolute favorite Goumi footies in newborn and 0-3 sizes. I plan on keeping it simple and dressing my newborn in only footed onesies for the first month or two. And Goumi footies are so incredibly soft that I’ve found it difficult to switch to other brands.

4. Crib and Crib Mattress

My 18-month old is still using her crib, so I found a Pottery Barn Kids Kendall Convertible Crib used on Marketplace. My plan is to buy the toddler conversion kit when my toddler is ready to transition to a toddler bed. I will also need to order a new crib mattress.

5. My Favorite Pottery Barn Kids Crib Sheets

I learned that you only really need two crib sheets per crib. I also learned that no crib sheets compare to the Pottery Barn Luxe Chamois Crib Fitted Sheet. Whenever I switch to any other sheet, even an organic cotton sheet, my toddler notices the difference. I now have four of these sheets (two for each crib) to rotate between.

6. New Baby Book and Mom Journal

I’ve loved filling out this baby book and this one-line-a-day mom journal. I’m going to order a new copy of each to complete for our new little girl and continue the tradition.

7. Personalized Pottery Barn Kids Heirloom Baby Blanket

During my first pregnancy, I bought this cozy Pottery Barn Kids Heirloom Baby Blanket and personalized it with my daughter’s name. She absolutely loves this blanket and we cuddle and read bedtime stories under it every night. I’m going to order a second personalized Pottery Barn Kids Heirloom Baby Blanket in a different design for our new baby.

8. Tripp Trapp High Chair

I LOVE our Tripp Trapp High Chair.

We went through a few high chairs before finally investing in a Tripp Trapp and it was completely worth the extra expense. The Tripp Trapp is the only high chair that was supportive enough for my daughter to sit up straight with good posture when learning how to eat. We plan to continue using our current Tripp Trapp with our toddler for the next few years, so we will need an extra for the new baby.

9. New Bassinet and Sheets

We ended up leaving our original bassinet with the grandparents when we moved, so we need a new bassinet. I found a used Halo Baby Flex Bassinest on Marketplace that I’m excited to try out. I also ordered two waterproof bassinet mattress pad covers and two fitted sheets for the bassinet.

10. A New Cordless, Hands-Free Breast Pump

During my first pregnancy, I chose the Medella Pump in Style that was fully covered by insurance. It was fine, but this time I will have a toddler to run after. So being plugged into an outlet doesn’t seem like an option. I’m going to pay the difference and choose a new hands-free cordless pump that I can use on the go, like the Elvie.
