10 Sustainable Baby Clothing Brands I Love

Sustainable Baby Clothing

Over the past year, I’ve tried out a handful of sustainable baby clothing brands. Some brands I included in my baby registry, but most of these brands I wish I had known about when my daughter was a newborn. These 10 brands are now my favorites for baby clothing essentials. I try to prioritize comfort and choose outfits that are easy to put on and allow movement. I also try not to spend too much. Life has become a lot messier since we started solids, so I avoid outfits I’m worried about staining. For the brands that are a little more expensive, I sign up for their emails and wait for the sales. When there is a sale, I have a few go-to items for each brand that I order in the next size up. Overall, I have found sustainable baby clothing brands to be softer, more durable, and more comfortable than the non-organic alternatives.

Why Sustainable Baby Clothing Brands?

Choosing organic cotton and supporting sustainable clothing brands that prioritize ethical production benefits both your baby and the planet.

When you find great deals on baby clothes from major brands, there is usually a reason for the discount. Non-sustainably produced clothing is full of potentially harmful chemicals and contributes to unethical production in the fashion industry. This includes dangerous working conditions, extremely low wages, and exposure to chemicals. As consumers, we are often so far removed from the source of the products we buy. Choosing organic and sustainable clothing is one way to understand the supply chain and support companies that are choosing ethics over profit.

Planet and ethics aside, organic and sustainable baby clothing brands are also typically much softer, more durable, and designed with your baby’s comfort in mind. Even though the price tag is a little higher, sustainable clothing brands will outlast and outperform the non-organic alternatives.

10 Sustainable Baby Clothing Brands I Love

Sustainable Baby Clothing Brands | Goumi Kids

1. Goumi Kids

Goumi is my favorite sustainable baby clothing brand for footies, zipper jumpsuits, booties, mitts, and slumber sleepbags. The clothing is made from an organic cotton and bamboo blend that is incredibly soft. The softest of any brand I’ve tried. All products come in a variety of cute solids and patterns and they have options for all ages baby through adult. I also love that Goumi is a mama owned and operated company.

The footies (0-6 months) and zipper jumpsuits (6-24 months) from Goumi are AMAZING. I never knew footie pajamas could have so many special features. Two-way zipper, convertible flip feet, bum flap, padded knees (zippered jumpsuit only), and integrated hand mitts with a black and white pattern for babies (footies only). You can also buy a super soft mama robe to match the footies or zipper jumpsuits (I love my Goumi robe in storm gray).

I am a huge fan of the Goumi bamboo boots and mitts as well. As a newborn, these were the only shoes and mitts that actually stayed on my little one. The bamboo boots are still my go-to shoes for everyday when we are hanging at home. Still the only ones that stay on her feet!

Goumi also makes my favorite slumber sleepbag. The slumber sleepbag has a two-way zipper, is very soft and breathable, and keeps babies warm enough when it cools down at night (it’s TOG 1.0).

Look out for Goumi‘s sales. Sometimes a certain color, pattern, or category is on a flash sale.

Sustainable Baby Clothing Brands | Hanna Andersson

2. Hanna Andersson

Hanna Andersson is the original sustainable baby clothing brand. I even grew up wearing Hanna Andersson. This is my go-to brand for dresses, leggings, sweaters, socks, and bodysuits. I usually buy one cute seasonal outfit set and a bunch of other basics to mix and match. Everything at Hanna Andersson is soft, durable, allows for free movement, and comes in a wide range of bright colors and patterns.

The bodysuits stand out because they can be adjusted as your baby grows. These socks are my favorites because they actually stay on, are soft, and are thicker than other options. This hat was the only winter hat my daughter would wear because it didn’t fall over her eyes. They also have great swimwear.

Last week, most items were 40% off and I stocked up on summer t-shirts and shorts. Hanna Andersson has sales every few weeks, so it’s worth waiting for a sale before ordering.

Sustainable Baby Clothing Brands | Boden

3. Boden

Boden has become one of my favorite sustainable baby clothing brands. The clothes are a little more expensive than other brands so I wait for sales, but I try to pick out a few special items for each size. All the details and patterns are so unique and adorable. I love that Boden outfits are baby-box worthy, but not fussy or uncomfortable.

The baby clothes I have bought from Boden fit true to size and are durable, comfortable, and soft. I love the cardigans, swimwear, playsets, leggings, shoes, tights, and dresses.

Check for sales on the Boden website or at Nordstrom.

Sustainable Baby Clothing Brands | Primary

4. Primary

I love Primary and it’s mission as one of the leading sustainable baby clothing brands.

“Every color for every kid. With no labels and no slogans. Super soft and sustainable fabrics for clothes that play together.”

The clothes are soft, well-made, and inexpensive. I love the babysuits, fleece leggings, leggings, joggers, and zip footies. Primary is also a great brand for matching adult and baby outfits. I love the adult t-shirts and like to buy matching babysuits or PJs.

I usually buy a few babysuits and a few pairs of leggings from Primary to mix in with Hanna Anderson because they are inexpensive and have great sales.

Sustainable Baby Clothing Brands | PACT

5. PACT

PACT is a personal favorite sustainable brand, but they also have great kids basics. The organic cotton bodysuits are soft and thicker than other brands. They run true to size, but do not stretch so you may want to size up. I bought a few of these t-shirt onesies in simple white and a few in fun patterns. Wait for sales – onesies often are just $6 each on sale. PACT sometimes also has footies, long sleeved bodysuits, and patterned leggings for babies.

Sustainable Baby Clothing Brands | Pehr

6. Pehr

Pehr’s baby clothes are incredibly soft and the patterns fun and unique. My little girl wore her Pehr outfits on repeat until she grew out of them. The rompers are my favorite. I have a long wish list of baby items that I want from Pehr, including this romper, this one-piece, and these overalls.

You can buy Pehr on Amazon or on their website. Pehr’s sales are not usually as frequent or generous as the other brands listed here, but the clothing is very high quality, fits true to size, and are designed with baby’s comfort in mind.

Sustainable Baby Clothing Brands | Little Planet

7. Little Planet by Carter’s

Some of my favorite baby items are from Carter’s Little Planet line. I love these overalls, this dress, and this swimsuit. Everything I own from this brand is very well made and soft. I usually pick up a few unique items from Little Planet that will complement the other brands. They had a sale a few weeks ago and I bought this sundress and these shorts for the summer. It’s worth waiting for the sales.

Sustainable Baby Clothing Brands | Patagonia

8. Patagonia

Patagonia‘s ethical fair trade kids clothing line is planet-friendly and perfect for active babies. I picked up some baby Patagonia items during their big fall sale and I have been so impressed with the quality. I have this Snap-T Fleece Jacket, a jacket like this, rain bibs like these, this t-shirt, and the Micro D Fleece Bottoms. Patagonia is expensive, but they have a few really great sales each year.

I bought the fleece jacket and puffer jacket in size 3-6 months. I thought our little one would grow out of both jackets in a month or two, like she did with everything else. Both jackets fit until she was 10 months old. It was amazing.

Sustainable Baby Clothing Brands | Burt's Bees Baby

9. Burt’s Bees Baby

Burt’s Bees Baby is so easy to order on Amazon or pick up at Target. But I’ve noticed the Burt’s Bees Baby website has great sales and a wider selection. I’ve tried out the footed pajamas, bodysuits, baby booties, quilted wearable blanket, and cotton wearable blanket. All were great. I do think some of the other brands have slightly better overall quality and are a little softer, but I love Burt’s Bees Baby’s fun patterns and variety.

My favorite items from Burt’s Bees Baby are these Organic Cotton Baby Booties, these blankets, and the wearable blankets. I like to have one quilted wearable blanket (1.5 TOG) and one thinner organic cotton wearable blanket (0.5 TOG) to pair with my Goumi Kids Slumber Sleepbag (1.0 TOG) so I have options for all temperatures.

Sustainable Baby Clothing Brands | Aden + Anais

10. Aden + Anais

Aden + Anais has a new line of eco-conscious products that are made from 100% GOTS certified organic cotton and their signature soft muslin, which is combined with rayon made from bamboo. I love the Aden + Anais swaddles for newborns and the organic cotton burpy bibs.

Other Sustainable Baby Clothing Brands

There are lots of sustainable baby clothing brands I haven’t tried yet. I found my favorites and stuck with them, but I’ve been meaning to order a few things from some of these other brands as well. All of the brands listed below are planet-friendly and have adorable baby clothes. If you’ve tried any of these brands, let us know what you think in comments!
